An Eye for An Eye

I've been recently been pondering on some stuff..I know that in the Bible that Christians should not seek an eye for an eye..We're told that if someone slaps us on the right cheek to give the other cheek to be slapped too...And if someone steals our cloak, we should give him our shirt too (or something like that). So, then, are we suppose to do exactly that?
Let's give a situation...
A friend, let's say John, asks to borrow a pencil and you lend him. Then, he asks to borrow a ringgit and you give a ringgit to him. After that, you find that you left your eraser at home and ask John to lend you one but he refuses. After that, John asks you for another favour.
Will you do it for him? Or refuse just like he did when you asked for help?
Let's suppose you do what the Bible says and help him. So the story continues. You ask for help and he refuses again, then he ask for your help and you help him...and it goes on and on...
So in all, every time "John" asks you for you help, you help him and every time you ask for his help, he refuses...and you'll be just like his personal servant, doing all he asks you to do and casted aside when not needed.
So is this this how Christians are suppose to live? Because that will take a whole lot of patience to do that. I think most Christians would only help when we are helped back..after all, that's what everyone does, right? An eye for an eye.....

Wow, dude, that's happened to me too. And sometimes it's hard to deal with sometimes. I just continued it I guess, until that person realized that he had to help me out sometimes as well. But if that person doesn't eventually realize, what kind of friend is that right?

haha..but what if that person's not your friend? I'm sure we'll be meeting lots of people who will use us if we let them...then what?

If that person's not your friend, umm, let's see....Ahaha...well, i won't let them manipulate me by doing that. I'll just tell them in a nice way, and probably, they'll stop

Hi, I'm sure none of you will know me, but i so happens to come across your blog through Esther's, and i found this post interesting.

Maybe it is really frustrating when others makes us do things but they refuse to help us.

Nonetheless, let us live as how Christian's should live. That is to LOVE.

Now it doesn't mean that they can manipulate you, and they shouldn't like what dear Jeanette has said. Simple words can explain it, as long as we can show love, that's all we need to do.

Hi, as a matter of fact, I do know you. And you should know that I know you unless you don't know who I really am or you forgot. haha.

showing love...hmm...yea, so your point is that when someone uses us over and over again, we are still suppose to show love to them, isn't it?

That's what I was trying to say in my post. That how are we suppose to show LOVE to those who DON'T appreciate it and take advantage of it? I know we should, but can we?

In short, what I've been trying to say is CAN we love our enemies? or more importantly is ARE we showing love to our enemies?

I'm so so sorry! Maybe it was because i don't know your name, "ja" tell me la! Its been at least 6 years i've been in KL, not easy to remember everyone. haiz..

We CAN love and SHOULD love, just should allow them to advantage of us. By not helping them also doesn't mean that we don't love them, sometimes we do that so that they will learn not to take advantage of others.

As long as we do wht God has called us to do, there will be no problem at all.

Btw, then would i know who Jeanette is?

haha..you guys arh(: 'ja' is Pan Jia Ahn larh..rmbr? Jeanette is Jeanette Tagal..hehe..true..we always say this and that, but do we really show love?hardly,i'd say..actions speak louder than words..honestly there are people i dislike in school, and yeah..its not easy to show love to them, especially when you dont get the love back in return..and i really admire those people who can show love unconditionally..thats what God told us to do,to love our neighbours..it is hard, but its not impossible either(:
