Emphasizing Pain

When I see people emphasize their pain and suffering, I get rather annoyed.... Because in emphasizing what they are going through, they are actually truly showing off to others the pain and trials they are going through... It is very obvious that they are boasting, but it is showed under a pretence humility....It's like saying, "It's so hard la; so difficult"; but the fact that they are actually capable of doing it is not stated outright but obviously implied... The more honest way of saying is, "Even though it's hard, I can do it"; but this is hardly said as it is an obvious boast... Emphasizing how hard and painful a task is like putting on a transparent mask of humility and actually showing all the hardship inside, while pretending to to be humble.. And it really annoys me, as it is not just showing off, but on top of that pretending not to show off...

Having said that, I find that I myself do it... It is a way that I show off to others and yet feel good about it, as I think myself to be 'humble'; while in fact, it is worse than showing off bluntly... I guess all of us do it at certain times, but we must realize that emphasized pain and suffering impresses no one...

So, I find it better for me to keep my pain and sufferings to myself....I'm not saying that sharing our pains and troubles to others is wrong, but there is a thin line between pouring out our troubles to others and boasting about our pain; and in my case, I tend to boast most of the time when I bring up the subject of my pains and suffering...So, I guess by keeping it to myself I won't even have the chance to do so...

We also have to realize that emphasizing pain is much more easier to do than outright boasting; although it is, in a way, worse...It is like boasting, and yet denying it... And at the end of the day, it impresses no one; so why bother? If we want to impress people, I think we should just be who we truly are - as a whole, and not emphasizing just a certain good quality we have or the pain we go through...

'I know who I am...
I like who I am...
I like who you are...
I just wish that
YOU would like who YOU are.'

okay....that was random and out of topic....=P

"what good will keeping things to yourself do?"

well, if we keep things inside, we wouldn't even have the opportunity to be tempted to show off right?

but of course, the pain might eat us up from the inside..so there're both pros and cons...

and, btw, WRITE SOMeTHING ON YOU BLOG! =P

re: Julius
well, you have a point...but I think that it not only doesn't impress anyone, but also cause people to look lower at us (contrary to what it is intended to do), which obvious ly matters..
